Frequently Asked Questions about E-Dissertations

Who owns the copyright for doctoral dissertations in edoc?

What should I do if the dissertation or parts thereof are to be published by a publishing company or as a patent?

  • If a doctoral dissertation contains articles already published or will be published as a whole, the electronic version can be made available at a later time that complies with the publishing contract. The desired publication date can be entered in edoc when uploading the dissertation.
  • We assume that publication is to take place within the submission period for the printed copies. This period is generally sufficient for journal articles. In the case of a patent or book – particularly if it contains protected images – the issue must be clarified with the publishing company. Publication can be further postponed in justified cases.
